Getting Started in G Suite Google Classroom

G Suite Google classroom has been here for ages – it only became widely popular when the pandemic started. Google Apps for Education was meant to help teachers and students share and learn new things in a more modern, innovative way. 

 

What are G Suite Google classroom tools?

 

G Suite for Education contains the same set of apps we normally use and love, including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, etc. with one difference. They’re designed with more intelligent features that are bound to make the learning process much easier both for teachers and students. Through these apps and features, teachers can create online classes, but as well track document changes, promote and participate in discussions, delegate, and track assignments.

 

Getting Started in G Suite Google Classroom

 

If you’re new to G Suite Google Classroom, then you might be wondering how to access it and get things started. That said, will show you how to put things into motion.

 

Before you start using G Suite Google Classroom make sure you’re logged into your Google account. Then, access your Google Classroom by visiting classroom.google.com.

 

The next thing you have to do is to create a class. You can do it by clicking on a “plus” icon in the top right corner, and then selecting “Create class button”.  Add the name for your class, click “create” and you’ll be taken to the class’ page.

 

When you’ve done this, you’d need to invite students to your class. You can do it via email, or by inviting them with a class code. Once you’ve set up the classroom and invited participants, you’ll have to set up a stream – a place where students can see announcements and other posts but also post and comment themselves. 

 

How to create assignments?

 

With G Suite Google classroom you can effortlessly assign tasks online. Whether it’s a questionnaire, worksheet, or reading material – G Suite will get you covered.

 

To create assignments, questions, or distribute material, you’ll need to navigate to the Classwork tab, click the Create button, and select the “Assignment” option.  Once you’ve done this you’ll have the form in front of you, allowing you to create assignments.

 

An amazing perk is that Google Classroom takes all assignments and automatically adds them to class’ Google Calendar which gives you a better overview of the assignments’ due dates.

 

How to create quizzes in G Suite Google Classroom?

 

As Dwight Shrute would say “Students take quizzes. Fact.” As a teacher, you can create quizzes in Google Forms in your G Suite Google Classroom. To do it, go to the Google Forms homepage, then click the Blank icon. Click the Settings icon, then the Quizzes tab, and toggle the Make this a quiz switch.

 

Once you choose your preferred settings, click Save. You can then name your quiz and start writing your questions. For each question on your quiz, you’ll need to define the correct answers. 

 

Once you’ve finished creating your quiz, you’ll need to bring it over to your class.  After students submit assignments, you’ll be able to review and grade them. 

 

How to grade students’ assignments?

 

One way to grade students’ assignments is on the Student Work page. Simply click the score next to any student’s name, then type the grade you’d like to give. Once you finish the grading, you can select the checkbox beside each student’s name and click Return. This will send the graded assignments back to the right students.

 

How to communicate with students and parents via Google Classroom?

 

In addition to assigning and grading work, Google Classroom allows its users to communicate with students via email. What’s more, parents and guardians will be able to receive email summaries such as missing work, upcoming work, and recent class activity.
