# Admin Training 1: Connect Vacation Tracker to Slack

Sign up with your Slack account and add Vacation Tracker to your Slack workspace, so your team can request and approve leave without leaving Slack.

## Before You Start

A Slack Workspace Admin or Owner must allow Vacation Tracker to be installed. If you're not one, ask them to approve the app first.

## Sign Up

- Go to app.vacationtracker.io/signup and click Sign up with Slack.

- A Slack tab opens. Sign in to your Slack workspace there and allow Vacation Tracker.

- Back in Vacation Tracker, follow the steps to finish setting up your account.

## What Your Team Uses in Slack

- The Vacation Tracker app: leave requests, answers and updates arrive as direct messages from the app.

- /vacation: type it in Slack to request leave, check your status, see who's away or open the dashboard.

- Channels: leave summaries and birthday messages can go to any public or private Slack channel. You set these up in Team Notifications.

## Check It Worked

- Vacation Tracker appears under Apps in Slack, and typing /vacation shows the menu.

- You can open the dashboard and see the left-hand menu for an Administrator.

## Common Questions

I see "Apologies, but you are not authorized to install Vacation Tracker". What do I do?Your Slack workspace needs to approve the app. Ask your Slack Workspace Owner to approve Vacation Tracker in Slack's app management settings, then click Sign up with Slack again.
