# How Do I Connect Vacation Tracker to My AI Tools with the MCP Server?

If you use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or another AI tool, you can connect it to your Vacation Tracker account and ask questions about your team's time off, upcoming leaves, and holidays directly from your AI. The setup happens inside your AI client, and Vacation Tracker handles the sign-in approval. It takes about two minutes.

## What You'll Need

- An active Vacation Tracker account on the Core or Complete plan. MCP access is included at no extra cost.

- One of the supported AI clients: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, Cline, or Windsurf. Most other AI tools that support the Model Context Protocol will also work.

## How to Connect

- Open your AI client (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, Cline, or Windsurf) and go to the area where MCP servers, integrations, or connectors are added. The exact path varies by client.

- Choose to add a new MCP server.

- Paste the Vacation Tracker MCP server URL: https://mcp.vacationtracker.io/mcp

- Save the server. Your AI client opens a sign-in window for Vacation Tracker.

- Sign in with your Vacation Tracker account (the same one you use on the dashboard) and approve the access request.

- You're connected. Start asking your AI questions about your team's leaves, upcoming time off, and holidays.

## What You Can Ask

Once connected, your AI can answer questions about your team's time off. A few examples to try:

- "What is the availability of the product team until the end of Q2?"

- "Who's been off the most this quarter?"

- "When is the next holiday in the UK office?"

- "Which month has the highest leave usage historically?"

- "Find two days in May when 50% or more of marketing is in."

Read-only right now

The MCP server is currently read-only. Your AI can answer questions about leaves, teammates, and holidays, but it can't submit or approve leave requests on your behalf. Booking and approvals still happen inside Vacation Tracker. Write actions are on the roadmap.

Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI tools securely connect to apps like Vacation Tracker. With it, your AI can answer questions about your team, leaves, and holidays without you needing to open the Vacation Tracker dashboard.

Is it secure? What can my AI see?

Your AI only sees what you can see in Vacation Tracker. Sign-in uses the same OAuth flow as the web app, every call respects your role and team visibility, and you can disconnect from your AI client at any time. If your account has visibility limits set, your AI sees the same limits.

Does this cost extra?

No. MCP access is included on the Core and Complete plans. There are no per-call charges and no separate add-on to subscribe to.
