# How Do I Give Consent for Birthday Notifications?

If your company Admin has set up Birthday Notifications, Vacation Tracker can post a friendly birthday message to your team on the day. You decide whether your own birthday is announced. The control lives in your Account Settings under Announce my birthday, and you can change it at any time. 

## Steps

- Sign in at app.vacationtracker.io (https://app.vacationtracker.io/signin).

- Click your name (or avatar) in the bottom-left of the sidebar and pick Account Settings.

- Scroll to the Announce my birthday section.

- Pick Yes to opt in (your birthday will be announced), or No to keep it private.

- Your choice saves immediately. There's no separate save button to click.

## What Happens Either Way

- If you pick Yes: on your birthday, Vacation Tracker posts a birthday message to the channel your Admin configured (Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email).

- If you pick No: nothing is posted. Your birthday stays private. Your manager and teammates won't get a message from Vacation Tracker on your behalf.

Change your mind any time

You can flip the toggle as often as you like. The change applies to your next birthday, so if you turn it off the day before, no message is sent.

## Common Questions

Why don't I see the Announce my birthday section?

Your company Admin hasn't set up Birthday Notifications yet. The section only appears on your Account Settings once an Admin has created a Birthday Notification for the workspace. Where does my birthday come from?

Vacation Tracker uses the Birthday field on your User profile. If it's empty, the announcement has nothing to fire on. Your Admin (or you, depending on permissions) can add or update the date from your profile. See How Do I Edit User's General Information? Does my Admin see my choice?

Vacation Tracker doesn't surface a separate report of who's opted in or out. Your Admin sees the result on the day. If your toggle is off, no message goes out for you, and that's the only signal. The setting itself is yours to control.
