# How to Adjust the Length of Workdays

Set how many hours count as a standard workday for everyone in a Location. The field lives in the Location's Edit form, defaults to 8 hours, and accepts 1 to 23 hours in half-hour steps.

Complete plan onlyComplete

The Length of Workday field is available on the Complete plan. On the Core plan the workday stays at the 8-hour default.

## Steps

- Sign in at app.vacationtracker.io (https://app.vacationtracker.io/signin) as an Administrator.

- In the left-hand menu, expand Leave Setup and click Locations.

- On the card for the Location you want to change, click Edit. You'll land on the Location's General tab.

- On the top right of the General tab, click Edit Location General Settings.

- Scroll to the Workweek and Workday section and find the Length of Workday field.

- Enter the number of hours. Type the value directly or use the stepper arrows to move in half-hour increments.

- Click Update Location at the bottom of the page to save.

## What You Can Enter

#### Length of Workday

An optional field on the Location's Edit form. Every Location starts at 8 hours. You can set anything from 1 to 23 hours, moving in half-hour steps, so 7.5 and 8.5 are both valid but 7 hours 20 minutes is not. The field displays one decimal place, for example 8.0.

Changing this turns off Half-day leaves

Half-day leave option is only available for an 8-hour workday. Changing the standard workday from 8 hours will disable this option. Keep the Location at 8h if your team relies on Half-day leaves.

## Where to Check the Current Value

The Location's General tab lists Length of Workday as a read-only field, so you can confirm what a Location is set to without opening the Edit form. It shows the value in hours, for example 8h.

## Common Questions

Can I set a different workday length for one employee?

Yes. The Location setting covers everyone in that Location, but you can set an individual value from the user's own profile instead. See How to Adjust a User's Workday Length (https://vacationtracker.io/knowledge-base/how-to-adjust-a-user-s-workday-length/).

Why can't I edit the Length of Workday field?

The field is available on the Complete plan. If your workspace is on the Core plan, the workday stays at 8 hours. You'll also need Administrator rights to open the Edit Location form at all.

Do I have to change the Workweek as well?

No. Workweek and Length of Workday sit in the same section of the form but work independently. Workweek controls which days count as working days; Length of Workday controls how many hours each of those days is worth. Change either one on its own.
