Who doesn’t like taking a vacation? That’s what we thought – such a person doesn’t exist. Your boss, on the other hand, may favor the workaholic in you, but we have a solution for the nagging employer. Vacations are good! That’s a fact. And if someone has the slightest doubt about it, then just keep on reading!

Taking a vacation reduces stress

And that’s scientifically proven! We can say a big ‘’thank you’’ to the American Psychological Association which concluded that vacations are reducing stress levels by removing people from the situations and environments they associate with stress and anxiety. And the effects last way past the duration of the vacation! Some research done by the University of Vienna found that people had fewer stress-related complaints after taking time off from work. Seems legit, right?

Vacation equals better sleep

One sheep, two sheep…. is this torture ending soon? How many of us are familiar with this scenario? We bet that everyone has sometimes been in a situation in which falling asleep seems almost impossible. Not being able to fall asleep often means we have too much on our minds. To prevent this from happening, try taking a vacation. Some researchers suggest that vacations can decrease repeated sleep disruptions like working late. If your work makes you stressed and your sleep is disrupted, then taking time off might be a good idea. Vacations make you more productive

Nobody can be a top performer all the time. Everyone needs some time off to recharge, especially now when we’re living in a fast-paced world which makes us do more things in a shorter time frame. Ernst & Young made an experiment on its workers and found that for each additional 10 hours of vacation time, employees took; their year-end performance ratings improved by 8 percent. Taking a vacation makes you more productive and happier, and when happy you’re able to give your best. Some companies realized soon enough that giving their employees the freedom to take as much time off as they need actually benefits business and they have implemented an unlimited vacation policy, known as an unlimited PTO policy. No, it’s not a joke, and if you’re dreaming about such a working environment try sending those companies a CV ASAP.

Vacations make good relationships better

The secret behind any good relationship hides in the time spent with the person we love. Sadly, many of us tend to put our personal lives behind us to pursue a career. We want to prove to our colleagues, and to our boss that we’re hardworking and ready to be promoted, but our personal relationships are dying at the same time. That’s why you should cherish your time off and take a vacation to reconnect with the people you care about. Taking a weekend escapade with friends and family will make you more relaxed and happy. Balance is the key to everything in life, so don’t overlook personal life because of professional pursuits.

Vacations help you get thinner

Maybe it’s the right time to quit going to the gym after work and take a vacation! Some studies have shown that the majority of people who struggle with excessive amounts of weight tend to stress eat. Stress hormones such as cortisol are linked to increased belly fat and weight gain, which is related to heart disease. On the other hand, people who regularly take vacations feel more energized and are often more active on vacation. Scientists were also able to prove that vacations improve glucose levels in people and even have some weight loss around their waist.

We’re all about vacations if you ask us. Sometimes you just need to find the balance in life and going on either side of the extremes is never a good thing to do. If you feel worn out and you lack energy, then maybe taking a vacation is the right thing to do. You need to listen to your body, even when it yearns for a pina colada on a sunny tropical beach! Need a vacation – go for it! What is stopping you?
