How Do I Connect Vacation Tracker to My AI Tools with the MCP Server?
If you use Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or another AI assistant, you can connect it to your Vacation Tracker account. Ask about balances and leave, request time off, or approve requests from the assistant you already use. Your assistant acts as you, so it can never see or change more than you can in Vacation Tracker.
What You'll Need
Where to Find It
In the left menu, open Integrations and click the MCP card. This page has everything you need to connect: the server address, setup steps for each assistant, and a summary of what your assistant can do.
How to Connect
- Go to Integrations > MCP.
- Under Connect your assistant, click Copy next to the Server address: https://mcp.vacationtracker.io/mcp
- Click the card for your assistant (for example Claude or ChatGPT). It opens the setup steps for that assistant in a new tab.
- In your assistant, add a new MCP server or connector and paste the address.
- Your assistant opens a Vacation Tracker sign-in. Sign in with your Vacation Tracker account (the same one you use on the dashboard) and approve the access request.
- You're connected. No keys are needed for most assistants.
What Your Assistant Can Do
Your assistant can now both answer questions and make changes for you, such as requesting time off or approving requests. Everything it does is limited by your role in Vacation Tracker.
The What your assistant can do section on the MCP page shows this for your role. For an Administrator, it shows You are an admin with:
A few examples to try:
Client ID and Secret
Most assistants don't need this. Create a client ID and secret only when your tool asks for one, for example Gemini Enterprise or Copilot Studio with manual sign-in.
- Go to Integrations > MCP and click Create client ID and secret.
- Under Which tool are you connecting?, pick your tool. We fill in the name and the redirect URLs that tool uses. You can still change them.
- Under Who can sign in, choose Only me for your own tools and scripts, or Everyone in Vacation Tracker for a tool your company sets up once, like Gemini Enterprise. Each person still signs in as themselves and sees only what their role allows.
- Check the Name. People see this name when they sign in, so use the name of the tool.
- Under Access, choose Read only (look up balances, leave, holidays, people and settings, without changing anything) or Read and change (also request, edit and approve leave, and change settings the person is allowed to change).
- Check the Redirect URL. Your tool shows this address in its setup, often called callback URL or redirect URL. Click Add another URL if you need more than one.
- Click Create client.
Common Questions
Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI tools securely connect to apps like Vacation Tracker. With it, your AI can answer questions about your team, leaves, and holidays, and take actions like requesting or approving leave, without you needing to open the Vacation Tracker dashboard.
Your assistant acts as you. It can never see or change more than you can in Vacation Tracker. You sign in with your own Vacation Tracker account, every action is checked against your role, and every change is recorded in the user logs. You can disconnect from your AI client at any time.
No. MCP access is included on the Core and Complete plans. There are no per-call charges and no separate add-on to subscribe to.
