From the moment we launched Vacation Tracker, we’ve been committed to offsetting our carbon footprint. It’s a mission that our teams in Canada and Serbia are proud of as we work to reduce our environmental impact.
While we had a goal in mind, we didn’t know how to truly offset our footprint and make a difference—until now. After months of brainstorming, our teams came together to finally take action against climate change by planting trees to help prevent further forest degradation.
Forests are essential for absorbing our growing CO2 emissions, and planting trees is a powerful tool in the fight against climate change. We feel this is of the utmost importance for our planet and our children’s futures.
Partnership with One Tree Planted
Knowing little about the topic, we turned to the experts One Tree Planted, a 501 charity with a mission to help global reforestation efforts. And on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2022 our green journey officially began.
In addition to our partnership with One Tree Planted, we also wanted to do some planting ourselves.
We started by educating ourselves on how to plant trees, and more importantly, how to make sure they survive. Once we had the basics down, there was only one thing left to do – schedule the date and start planting.
Our Montreal team in Canada officially launched our climate change initiative by purchasing over 100 pine trees.
Our Montreal Team Gets Planting
On what was probably the nicest day so far this year, our Montreal team set out to do some good in the wilderness and plant some pine trees. We headed up north to the Lac-Supérieur region, about an hour and a half north of Montreal.
After getting geared up—ATV, shovels, dirt, drill, trees and all—we made our way to the patch of forest where we would be planting. Our small team had never planted a tree before, but our research and helpful tips from the tree nursery meant we were ready to get our hands dirty.
We settled into our work, digging holes and carefully planting the trees. It was great to be out in nature, surrounded by the beautiful trees and fresh air.
Overall, the process was fun and surprisingly easy. It didn’t take much time or effort to get a hole drilled in the ground—especially when you have a team to help out!
All that said, we didn’t get through our 100+ trees as we had planned. We planted 40 or so, making sure each one was safe and secure. We wanted to give each tree plenty of space to grow for the best chance of survival.
The remaining pine trees went to family and friends who were happy to help out and get them planted.
We had some laughs and got to do something good for the environment at the same time.
What’s to come? Stay tuned…
Though this was just one small step in our journey to sustainability, we’re happy with our progress so far. We encourage you to get out there and find ways to make a difference—whether it’s by planting trees, reducing your carbon footprint, or simply being more environmentally conscious in your everyday life.
Next up for us is an event in Serbia where our team over there will also partake in some tree planting. Moving forward, One Tree Planted will be planting trees on our behalf for every milestone reached.
