Working in a team can be a tremendous joy or a big disappointment. How so? It all comes down to one thing – communication.

Since the moment we started working as a team, we were aware of this fact. If you communicate properly, everyone will be in a loop and won’t feel left out. Everyone will speak their mind and share amazing ideas which would have stayed in the dark if it wasn’t for effective communication.

Often, when there is a problem in a team, members do not know how to solve it. They try their best, however, the problem remains. And that is all because of bad communication.

Team members come to work every day ready to give their best, and they want to feel appreciated. Just like all of us.

However, what happens when they find out something important over the news, and they should have been informed of that earlier? If you think that’s not a good feeling, then you’re right.

Being a part of a team means working side by side every day, however, being in the same office isn’t what makes a team. Communication makes a team. And not just any communication, it has to be effective.

Of course, there are various company details that cannot be shared, and that’s completely fine. However, there are things your employees are entitled to know. Bad communication can lead to the entire team falling apart, and affect the entire company.

That’s why it is important to create a positive workplace atmosphere, where employees are respected and free to speak their minds.

1. Develop a Communication Strategy

If you want to run a successful business, with satisfied employees and clients, you need to have a strategy. Develop a communication strategy both for your employees and for your clients.

This is the only way you can ensure effective communication which will be consistent and respected by the entire company. It’s up to you to decide how you will present your communication strategy to your employees. You can do it during your company’s onboarding process, or schedule a meeting after a couple of days and let your new employees know your company’s rules.

If you’re wondering what should be in your communication strategy, that’s up to you. How do you want your company’s communication process to run? There are several things to note when it comes to this.

Think about what your employees should be informed of, and make sure the information gets to them on time. And then decide what “on time” means for you. Is that before you start working on something, or right before it’s supposed to launch? That’s up to you. However, it’s important to put all of that in your company’s communication strategy to ensure stability and effectiveness.

2. Encourage Feedback

Feedback is highly important in order to generate results. However, most employers think of this as a one-way street, while it should be the complete opposite.

Feedback is a two-way street. This way you can let your employees know how you feel about their work, what they should modify, and what is greatly appreciated. The same goes for you. You’ll be aware of what your employees appreciate about the company and its management which is great. This way you’ll know if there’s anything that needs to be resolved and will be able to act on it quickly.

This actually might be one of the most important steps when it comes to establishing effective communication throughout the entire company.

3. Use Appropriate Tools For Communication

Having multiple offices is definitely amazing because it means your business is expanding and that’s always a positive thing. However, multiple offices come with more employees who do not know each other and communication can be a problem.

In order to avoid problems based on the fact that your employees do not know each other, organize team buildings where they’ll meet and establish a bond. This will definitely affect their work and the overall atmosphere and communication in the company.

When all is resolved, it’s time to find some appropriate tools for communication. This is absolutely essential for any business. Even though your employees work amazingly together, poor communication can affect the project and the entire company. In case your teams from different offices are working together, they need to be able to contact each other whenever they need to. This includes emails, chats, video calls, and so on.

That’s why it is essential you find a great platform that will enable effective communication. Like many out there, we use Slack. It’s a place where your team comes together to collaborate, share information and successfully finish various projects.

Another thing we absolutely love about Slack is the fact that we can integrate so many different tools with it. Thanks to this, we have everything we need in one place.

Slack has proven very useful for our company, and that’s why we’ve decided to create Vacation Tracker, a tool that can help other teams as well. It is a simple tool to keep track of when your team members are on vacation or away from the office.

There are many other employee communication apps like Slack, which can help you bring your collaboration skills to the next level. We have presented you with our favorite tips and tricks which have helped our business, hoping they’ll do the same for you.
