What is a Leave Request?
A leave request is a standard way by which an employee formally asks for time off from work. This request typically includes details such as the type of leave, dates requested, and the reason for the leave. It can be done by sending an email, using leave management software, or an HR system, but also by a visit and talk with the superior (in smaller companies).
Key Elements of Leave Request
Types of Leave
Employees can request different categories of leave depending on their own specific needs (or in time of urgency). These categories include vacation leave, sick leave, parental leave, bereavement leave (sometimes called compassionate leave), jury duty leave, and more.
Example: An employee might request vacation leave for a family trip, sick leave for medical appointments, or personal leave for a personal matter.
