It’s 2019. Chances are you know someone who’s working in a startup or is a part of one yourself. But, in case you aren’t, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s discuss how startups became popular and what you should know before joining one.

In the ’90, the Internet became very popular, very fast. People started seeing what the Internet can do, and how powerful it can be. As some realized what not only the Internet can do, but what they can do by using the Internet, startups came to life.

Many realized that, with the help of the Internet, they can do business online, at a lesser cost, and by targeting their potential customer easily.

And that’s how today, in 2019, we have an incredible number of startups all over the world. People realized that they can change the world with their innovative ideas, and they just went for it. Some achieved unimaginable success, while others weren’t so lucky. Yet, today, we still have new startups launching their solutions each day, trying to impact the world.

“Chase the vision, not the money, the money will end up following you.” – Tony Hsieh, Zappos CEO

If you are interested in finding out what happens behind the closed doors of a startup, then keep reading. We’re sharing some interesting things you should know before joining a startup.

Flexible working hours

Many startups offer flexible working hours. If you’re used to working a traditional nine-to-five job, then joining a startup is definitely not your cup of tea. We live in a digital world, with technology everywhere around us. Our nine-to-five jobs quickly transformed into a 24/7 work world, and while some love this, others might not be suitable for this kind of lifestyle.

Many startups all over the world offer flexible work schedules, giving you the time to achieve the perfect work-life balance. However, you have to be aware of the fact that things always don’t go as planned. You’ll have days when you have to work around the clock in order to meet deadlines and get the entire company out of a risky situation. But, the entire hustle is good. You get to learn, gain valuable experiences and grow as a person. There are a lot of opportunities for advancement, and you should definitely use them.

One is certain. In a startup, you will never have a boring day in the office. Some days might be slower than others, but those are the days you get to be even more creative and work on some new ideas. The key to startup success is innovation, so if you want to disrupt the market as we know it, you have to work hard.

The work environment is different than what you might be used to.

The startup culture is definitely something everyone needs to experience. Working in the corporate world can be satisfying, but they rarely have the mindset that startups have.

In a startup, you get to meet a lot of cool, nice, and interesting people, all working as a team to achieve something great. Everyone is more than happy to share their knowledge and spread the creative energy around. Startups often have international teams, so you can meet people from other countries, learn about their work ethics and make friends for life.

Having talented people around you, who are not afraid to share their knowledge with you is one of the best things when working in a startup.

Oh, and most of them don’t have a strict dress code. So, if your previous job required you to be in a uniform every day, you’ll be happy to know that startups encourage everyone to be themselves. It doesn’t matter if you’re not wearing a tie, as long as you’re hard-working, supportive, and positive.

Hands-on experience.

When applying for a job position in a startup, be sure that’s not the only thing you’ll be working on. As previously mentioned, in a startup, everyone loves helping each other, sharing knowledge, and spreading team spirit.

In a startup, there are many opportunities to grow. The important thing is that you work hard, show interest and with time, as you gain valuable skills, you might find yourself in a much higher position than you have ever imagined.

Startup life is definitely a lot different from what many are used to, but it can be a lot more interesting. Of course, every startup is different, as everyone has different working hours, different benefits, and so on. But the point is the same. It’s a group of talented people who are passionately working towards their goals, and the entire experience is unforgettable.
