Why do elevator pitches make most people anxious? We’ve rounded up a few elevator pitch examples to relieve some of the anxiety.

An elevator pitch is a concise presentation of an idea. It’s a catchy summary. It’s called an “elevator pitch”, because it can be delivered in as much time as it takes to ride an elevator.

Creating an effective elevator pitch is no easy task. Delivering a strong elevator pitch is tough too.

They give people anxiety, because elevator pitches need to be memorable. The best elevator pitches involve a lot of preparation.

If you are preparing an elevator speech to promote yourself or your business, you’re in luck! You can draw inspiration from some of the best elevator pitch examples below.

The Basic Elevator Pitch

There are different types of proposed outlines for pitching a concept. The main outline answers the following 3 questions:

What? How? Why?

This is the most basic of all elevator pitch examples. We can use Vacation Tracker and answer these questions in this basic elevator pitch format:

What? Vacation Tracker is an online leave management tool for teams.

How? It integrates with Slack and allows team members to make leave requests within seconds.

Why? Vacation Tracker was born of necessity. A team of developers working on Slack created Vacation Tracker to track their vacation schedules.

We can add a lot more detail to this brief summary. But the main goal here is to engage your audience. You can also prepare a call to action. Such as:

Vacation Tracker is offering a 7-day free trial. See for yourself if this leave management software can help your team!

The Business Idea Elevator Pitch

You’ve probably watched at least one episode of Shark Tank? For a budding entrepreneur, the show is a must-see!

On this show, you can see entrepreneurs pitch their business idea in front of a panel of seasoned investors. It’s a great place to see plenty of great (and terrible) elevator pitch examples!

A lot of new businesses or start-ups often follow the following Elevator Speech Template:

  1. Overview of what the company does/sells
  2. Identify your unique business proposition
  3. Back up the value of your business with numbers
  4. Ask an engaging question

Here is an example of what this pitch could sound like:

  1. UnicornDelivery allows you to bundle shopping carts from a different online store.
  2. That means two things: one, online customers enjoy a flawless shopping experience, while saving on shipping costs. And two: our business clients get an automated solution that dramatically boosts sales.
  3. We helped our client increase online revenue by 50% month-on-month, and have helped customers save thousands in shipping fees.
  4. How could your e-commerce business benefit from UnicornDelivery?

Although this could be an impressive pitch, it could still be improved. For this pitch to be worthy of the Shark Tank investors, we would add a precise savings number for the online shopping clients using the service. Venture capitalists always appreciate having more accurate data.

The Personal Elevator Pitch

This elevator pitch example can help a candidate stand out in a job interview. An elevator pitch can certainly be about selling a product or a service. Yet, it can also be about selling oneself. For example, the following elevator pitch structure could be used:

  1. Identify your professional persona
  2. Highlight your top skills – use an example
  3. Identify a challenge and how you’ve solved it or plan to solve it

For instance:

I am a Customer Service Manager at UnicornDelivery. I work with one mission in mind: to offer superior customer service by connecting every customer to a member of our support staff. We want our clients to feel supported at every step of their online shopping journey. In my current position, I’ve guided our customer service team through the resolution of over 1,500 delivery issues in the last year. I don’t believe that any problem is too big to handle. Above all, I do believe in creative solutions.

Hopefully, some of these elevator pitch examples were useful to you. You can refer back to them anytime. There are plenty of outlines and templates for writing the perfect elevator pitch. Yet, the best ones are the ones that are most simple and honest. So don’t overthink it!

When writing your own, know that it takes time. It’s a matter of perfecting your statement. It also involves a lot of practice. So, go out there and tell people what you, or your business, are all about. And remember to always have your business cards ready.
