January 2026 kicked off with some solid updates to Vacation Tracker. I'm talking about changes that actually make the platform easier to use—not just cosmetic tweaks. We shipped bug fixes, improved notifications, redesigned the account menu, and gave the Energy Level page a nice facelift (by the way, we're calling it Recharge now, and it's pretty cool).

Get smarter insights on your team's energy with VT Recharge
The biggest change you'll notice this month is the Energy Level page, which we're now calling Recharge.
Now, when you open your personal energy dashboard, you see your current energy level represented by a battery icon. Simple, visual, immediate. Below that, there's a weekly energy trend chart that shows how your energy stacks up against your department's average. It's a useful context—you can see if you're burning out faster than your peers or if you're actually in decent shape.
The score breakdown section lists all the contributing factors that go into calculating your energy level. Things like time since last vacation, workload patterns, and upcoming leave. It's transparent, which I appreciate.
But the real upgrade? AI-powered suggestions. Recharge now analyzes your schedule and suggests optimal times to take your next day off. It's not just guessing—it's looking at your workload, team coverage, and energy trends to recommend when a break would actually help (instead of just creating more stress).

Watcher notifications now cover more leave events
Watchers got a meaningful upgrade, too. Before, if you were set as a watcher on someone's leave, you'd only get notified when their request was approved. That's fine, but it left gaps.
Now, watchers receive notifications for approved, edited, and canceled leave requests. If you're a stakeholder who needs visibility into team schedules without being an approver, this makes your life easier. You're not micromanaging, but you're also not blindsided when plans change.

The account menu has been redesigned for faster access
We also gave the user profile section a facelift. When you hover over your profile picture in the bottom left corner, a pop-up menu appears with quick links to your profile, account settings, theme options, and language preferences.
It's cleaner than the old layout. You spend less time hunting through menus to change basic settings. Small change, but it adds up when you're using the platform daily.

Bug fixes and smaller improvements shipped too
Beyond the headline features, we fixed a bunch of smaller issues and added some quality-of-life improvements:
- Fixed bugs related to the probation period feature
- Improved the onboarding experience for approvers
- Added the ability to reset seniority entitlement days
- Added a status toggle to the leave policies page for easier management
- Enhanced the user dashboard by marking and pinning the default leave type
None of these are flashy, but they make the platform more reliable. Which sometimes, matters even more.

That's it for January. We're keeping the momentum going, and I'll be back next month with more updates.
