An employer is required to observe public holidays, and if an employee works on these days, the salary must be paid double the usual rate.

PTO

Employees are entitled to a period of paid vacation annual leave. Employers must grant their employees a minimum of 14 working days of paid vacation per year. Employees acquire the right to take a vacation after being employed, continuously, for one year. After five years on the job, the employer must increase the paid leave to 18 working days. 

Vacations cannot be fractioned for periods shorter than a week. The salary for the vacation period must be paid by the employer on the day prior to the beginning of a vacation.

Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Parental Leave

Maternity Leave

Regarding maternity leave, female employees are entitled to paid leave during

the seven weeks preceding the probable date of delivery, as well as the seven weeks that follow. Female employees also have the right to three rest periods of 20 minutes each, per working day, to breastfeed their children.

Paternity Leave

Employees are entitled to up to two days of paid paternity leave.

Sick Leave, Paid Sick Leave, and Family Care Leave

Employees generally use their vacation time as sick time as employees are not entitled to separate sick pay. Extended sick time is covered by the government, and does not include payment from the first day of illness.

Jury Duty Leave and Voting Leave (Leave due to Public Interest)

Bereavement Leave

Employees are entitled to up to 3 days of paid leave due to the death of a grandparent, parent, child or spouse.

Military Leave
