Leave management is extremely important for any company out there. From small businesses to future unicorns, it’s essential to take good care of your employees while also keeping the company’s objectives in mind.

We believe that a company is as strong as its employees. This means that if the employees are satisfied and motivated, the company will flourish. Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? We strongly believe so.

While there are various ways to keep your employees motivated and productive, leave management might be one of the most important ones there is. That’s why it is essential to do it well, keeping both your employees and your company in mind. Another major reason why leave management is extremely important is that your potential new employees will appreciate knowing you take good care of your company. And you’ll even get new clients, because who doesn’t love to work with someone who knows what good leave management is?

Turn your company’s leave management process into an advantage. How? We’ll give you some tips and tricks on how you can do that.

Leave Management Policy

As soon as you open your business, create a leave management policy. It’s crucial for your company’s success.

The first thing you need to do is learn about leave laws and regulations, from federal and local about employees’ rights, and when employees should be given leave.

After you’ve got to know the laws in your area, it’s time to add deadlines and think about various emergencies. Emergencies are something that can happen, and you should have a contingency plan for some common ones. Unplanned vacations are the worst, so you have to make a plan for your HR’s actions in those situations. The last thing you want is to leave your company unprepared.

And then, deadlines. Deadlines are very important and you must set different deadlines for different scenarios. The first one should definitely be how many days in advance the employee has to request vacation. Is it a week, or a month? See what works best, and be sure to let your employees know about these deadlines during your onboarding process.

Also, think about the duration of the vacation. Can your employees take three weeks at once? If not, write that in your leave management policy. That’s how there will be no place for surprises down the road.

Be mindful of the need for an extended vacation. If something happens, and your employee must stay longer than planned, be considerate. And having that contingency plan can definitely help in these situations.

Offer bonuses

Bonuses are a great motivation. We are all aware of that. However, they should be given only when earned. Bonuses are earned with hard work and dedication, and that’s how it should be. However, another situation when you might think about giving out bonuses is during critical periods when your employees request vacation but you need them to be in the company.

In those times, you can offer various bonuses. For example, giving an extra vacation day sounds amazing. Not only will your employees be satisfied and motivated, but your clients too.

However, if the employee can’t move the vacation, don’t hold that against that person. Have understanding, and think about hiring some emergency personnel.

For example, if you are an IT company, there are many freelancers out there who can jump in when you need them to.

Think about leave management tools
