See: Unpaid Leave
“Leave without pay (LWOP)” and “unpaid leave” are generally used interchangeably in the context of employee leave management. Both terms refer to a period of approved absence from work where the employee doesn’t receive their regular salary.
While the terms are synonymous, “leave without pay” (or LWOP) might be more common in formal settings, such as government or corporate environments, while “unpaid leave” may be used more casually.
