During an employee’s vacation, the employee remains entitled to receive his salary. Vacation allowance, however, is not mandatory. Furthermore, during (official) national holidays the employee also remains entitled to receive his salary.

  • Rollovers and payout of unused hours

  • Use-it-or-lose-it policy

In case an employee has enough unused vacation days, the employer can instruct the employee to use a part of the unused vacation days. The employee is advised to keep 5 vacation days unused.

  • PTO payout at the termination

Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Parental Leave

An employee is entitled to payment of 100% of her salary when she is on pregnancy- and maternity leave. The pregnancy leave can be two to six weeks before the estimated due date and the maternity leave can be eight to twelve weeks as of the date the employee gave birth. The total amount of time on leave (pregnancy leave and maternity leave combined) must in all events be at least fourteen weeks.

Sick Leave, Paid Sick Leave, and Family Care Leave

An insured employee who is unable to work due to illness is entitled to a compensation equal to 80% of his daily wage from the fourth day after calling in sick (illness notification). SVb does not pay any compensation for the first three sick days.

The right to sickness compensation for the same cause of disease expires after two years. This two years period starts from the first time the employee reports sick to SVb for this specific sickness.

Bereavement Leave

For situations such as weddings, funerals, delivery of children (fathers) and personal leave, there is no legal stipulation granting the employee a specific amount of time for permitted leave.
