What employers need to know
Paid holidays
Oklahoma law doesn't require employers to provide benefits such as holiday pay. If you have an established policy that provides them, the state enforces it under your eligibility rules.
Promised holiday pay is wages
Under Oklahoma's wage-payment law, holiday and vacation pay that you provide in an established policy count as wages once earned and due. That means they're covered by the state's rules for paying wages.
Holidays and overtime
Oklahoma has no state overtime law. Employers covered by federal wage and hour law must pay time and a half for hours worked over 40 in a seven-day workweek.
Holidays that fall on a weekend
Federal offices observe Saturday holidays on Friday and Sunday holidays on Monday.
Unused vacation when someone leaves
Oklahoma employers owe departing employees vacation pay only if their company policy or employment contract specifically requires it. A policy or contract may also deny payment for accumulated vacation.
From our Oklahoma leave laws guideSick leave
Oklahoma has no state law requiring sick leave and doesn't mandate paid or unpaid sick days. If an employer offers sick days, it must stick to its company policy or employment agreement.
