You can use the tool directly inside Microsoft Teams or Slack without opening a separate app. Your team requests time off where they already work, managers approve it there, and everyone sees the calendar in the same place.

Pricing is transparent - you know exactly what you're paying each month without negotiating with sales. The cost is significantly lower than BambooHR's minimum.

Timetastic: Solid Choice for European Companies

Timetastic works particularly well if your company is based in the EU or UK. The visual overview makes it easy to see who's out and when, which is helpful for smaller teams (under 200 people) where everyone needs visibility.

Like Vacation Tracker, this is a purpose-built leave tracking tool. You're not paying for features you don't need. The pricing is affordable and includes everything you need for basic leave management.

If you're a European company just outgrowing spreadsheets, Timetastic deserves a look.

Factorial: Full HR Suite at Lower Cost

Factorial is basically BambooHR's more affordable European cousin. It offers time management (including time off/leave management), time tracking, shift management, project management, employee performance tracking, talent acquisition, and onboarding.

This makes sense if you actually do need multiple HR features, not just leave tracking. Maybe you're planning to add performance reviews or hiring workflows soon. Factorial gives you room to grow without BambooHR's price tag.

The pricing isn't completely transparent either, but they report lower minimum monthly fees than BambooHR. If budget is your main concern and you need more than just leave tracking, Factorial might work.

The focus on European companies means better compliance with EU labor laws and data regulations.

AttendanceBot: Best for Agencies and Consultancies

AttendanceBot makes sense if you're running an agency or consultancy that bills clients by the hour. On top of leave management, you get time tracking, employee scheduling, and absence management.

The tool works inside Slack and Microsoft Teams, which is convenient if your team already lives in those apps. You can track project hours, manage time off, and handle scheduling all in one place.

Pricing sits between the purpose-built vacation tools and full HR platforms like BambooHR. You're paying a bit more than Vacation Tracker or Timetastic, but you're getting project-based time tracking as well.

Workday: When You Need Enterprise-Level Features

Workday goes in the opposite direction from the other alternatives. If you're not trying to simplify - if you actually need more enterprise features than BambooHR offers - this is your option.

It's built for larger companies that need extensive product offerings and enterprise-level support. You'll get all the handholding and implementation help that comes with enterprise software (whether you want it or not).

Most teams I talk to don't need Bamboo HR's full feature set. They just need reliable leave tracking that doesn't require a month of implementation and a sales negotiation to get started. Purpose-built tools do that job better and cheaper.

The key is being honest about what you'll actually use. If you're only tracking time off, paying for performance management and benefits administration doesn't make sense - no matter how good the demo looks.
