What employers need to know
Paid leave for 50+ employees
Nevada private employers with 50 or more employees in the state must provide paid leave of at least 0.01923 hours for each hour worked, under NRS 608.0197.
Holidays and overtime
Nevada overtime is 1.5 times the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Employees earning less than $18.00 an hour also get overtime for work over 8 hours in a 24-hour period.
Holiday pay under federal law
For Nevada employers, federal law (the FLSA) doesn't require pay for holidays that aren't worked. Holiday pay is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee.
Holidays that fall on a weekend
Federal offices observe Saturday holidays on Friday and Sunday holidays on Monday.
Unused vacation when someone leaves
Nevada employers may, but are not required to, pay out unused available paid leave when employment ends. If an employee who didn't leave voluntarily is rehired within 90 days, that unused paid leave must be reinstated.
